Installing fonts on network PCs

[link to this post]

I need to install a couple of font files on 200 netwrked pcs. Has anyone heard of and software we can purchase which will not only copy the fonts around but will initialise them for use as an automatic process.

We use active directory where we can to roll out applications but our AD experts do not know how to use it in this instance.

Thanks

Bitstream used to market a program called FontNav, which ran only local machines and could install fonts from a network drive. It's now been bought by Corel and ships with Corel Draw and WordPerfect. However, it can be obtained as part of the Draw trial, with no apparent limitations. See here for details.

Assuming your AD admins know how to run scripts, they need a script that copies the fonts to the %systemroot%\Fonts folder and then creates Reg_SZ value in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Fonts.

If they don't know how to do that you are going to have to stop referrring to them as AD experts.

Or you can copy the font files across using VBS or BAT/CMD and then wait for the next reboot.

If you have SMS you can use SMS installer to create an EXE or MSI file that installs the fonts for you (IIRC you can download SMS Installer but it needs an SMS licence to be legit)

Other installers, such as wise and installshield, also include font installation commands

Moto, can you give me a example of syntax for registering a font from a batch file?

Thanks
