XP Professional 64bit or Vista 32bit

just wondering which operating system should I be getting? XP 64 or Vista 32?

Presumably XP 64 will run faster although not sure if there will lots of hardware support (but I guess I can use 32 drivers, which defeats the speed purpose of getting 64 bits)...

what do you guys think?

personally I will be getting 64bit vista as my next os, purely due to the additional ram allowances

XP Pro 64bit and Vista 64bit will both allow memory in excess of 4GB though there are issues with drivers. Vista has the advantge of the same CD allowing either 32bit or 64bit installation (but for Home Basic IIRC) where as XP Pro 32bit and 64bit are two different products however I would stick with XP for now, too many issues with Vista reported.

Between vista x64 and xp x64 i would go with the vista x64 - but remember driver issue and driver signing is both big issues. It is a shame that microsoft didn't allow x32bit drivers to be used as a back up.

No brainer, XP every time! Come back in a year and ask again.

xp32bit, well just about everything works with that, vista 32bit isnt worth the extra hassle

That is what I mean, a choice between XP Pro 32 or Vista 64 would make sense, though choosing between XP 64 (little driver support) or Vista 32 (no advantage over XP 32 though with hassle) is the wrong way around.

thanks guys...the reason why I am asking is i am planning to buy a new computer and might as well get something faster than what i have now...

so i should just get XP prof 32bit now and wait till Vista 64bit comes out?

Vista has on the one CD both 32bit and 64bit (but for Home Basic) though I would stick with XP Pro for now, got a new PC a couple of weeks ago on XP Pro 32 bit. Can always upgrade at a later date.

I also got a laptop on XP Pro in Feb with a Vista upgrade disc, not felt the need to use the upgrade.
