Excel blank shhet

In Excel 2007 I open a sheet to be greeted by a blank blue screen with no cells or data. When I switch to full screen view the cells re-appear (no formatting bars, of course), so the sheet has loaded OK. How can I load normal view every time, or get to it from the 'blank' blue sheet? I hate full screen view, but am stuck with it at the moment. Strangely, it reverts to normal view after a week or so.

When you open Excel, is it defaulting to Page Break Preview?

It appears that Excel could be starting with the worksheet in hidden mode and you can always 'unhide' immediately after you start the program. Allternatively, you could try this as a permanent solution:

1. Close all Office files or applications
2. Click start > Run and then type the following in the text box and press OK
Excel.exe /unregserver
3. Click start > Run and then type the following in the text box and press OK
Excel.exe /regserver

This should reset Excel back to it's default state.

You could also try uninstalling all Excel and Office updates. This is a known problem with Excel and sometimes this has worked. After you have uninstalled the updates check to see if Excel works properly (open and closing a few times might be good). If all is ok then re-install each update one by one and run the open/closing Excel test a few times between each re-installation. It is critical that you do have all the neecessary updates installed to prevent any security vulnerabilities. If you find that one of the updates is the culprit then report the issue to Microsoft with the relevant kb number.
