Vista Home Premium

[link to this post]

On Wednesday logged into one of our laptops and and it blue screened. Something to do with Windows Defender and memory management. I disabled defender but I'm still getting blue screens with various stop codes 0A, 19, 50 etc.

It appears to be ok when I start it in safe mode but all the stop codes point to a driver issue.

I decided to backup the data on the drive and do a D2D restore to bring it back to how it was when I bought it.

To get the data off I bought a SATA Hard Drive docking station and can access the data from it. When I copied the data from the laptops D drive no problem transferred at 30-40MB/s. When I try and copy the data from the laptops C dive it plummeted to 300KB/s to 3MB/s and it very noisy.

Could it be that the HD is on it way out and there's to many bad sectors hence the slow speed? If it is how can I get a copy of a Vista Home Premium Install CD to reinstall the OS on the new HD? I remember Microsoft having a webpage that you could request an install CD if the OS came on an install Partition.

Sorry if this is a bit muddled but I was up until 3am with this and the kids woke me at 7am.

Thanks

Robert

Make sure windows defender is set not to include scanning itself as this slows thing down badly.

Surfing happily with IDNet.

Hardly likely! It only takes up 4.5 Meg.
