XP underlined menu options

How do I get right click drop down menu options to display with the single key to activate a command underlined? For example, right click disk, Properties shows 'r' underlined, and hitting the R key then displays properties as desired.

My PC does this, but I can't find out how to set it up on my son's machine. Someone here once told me before, but Search doesn't turn up that post - looks as if the archive has been cleared out from Feb 2008.

I always assumed this was a keyboard shortcut, button next to the right hand ctrl button?

But are you saying you get the "underlinded" options just when you right-click on the icon?

I assume you are talking about Vista here.

Go to Control Panel, Appearance and Personalization. Under 'Ease of Access Centre' click 'Underline keyboard shortcuts and access keys'. On the page that takes you to tick 'Underline keyboard shortcuts and access keys'. Options will then be underlined on the right-click menu and you can access them by typing the underlined letter.

Right click on the desktop
Select "Properties"
Select the "Appearance" tab
Select "Effects"
Uncheck "Hide underlined letters .....
Exit the dialogs using OK or Apply

The underline should now appear on all menus without needing to press the Alt key
