MS Office 2000 & Win Vista

[link to this post]

Im setting up a new PC for a neighbour tonight. Will MS Office 2000 work with Vista or not. Microsoft advises against it but they said as much when XP was launched and Office 2K is fine with XP. Furthermore, there are a few posts online to suggest 2K is all right with Vista. Id welcome posters advice regarding installation and whether Office 2K functions well with Vista. I think the user only wants to use MS Word and Excel.

Think you'll find that O2K will be fine on Vista - I'm fairly sure I have run it myself in the past.

There's always the option of installing it to run in "XP compatibility mode"

Right click on installtion app -> properties->compatility tab

The only issue I had was Outlook 2K didn't work - but that was Vista without Service Packs (setup for other people - switched to open office for my own use)

I installed it on a Vista PC recently and had no problems. Just updating it was a bit problematic, as it involved going to the Office Update site and manually downloading the service packs... but apparently it's going to be done through Windows Update soon anyway wink

It up and running with any hitches along the way. The user can't update anything I've installed yet because she's waiting to be connected to Virgin Media.

I didn't install Outlook. I'd read about problems with that app. I only loaded Word, Excel, and Office Tools. Everything was working OK when I left.

The problem with Outlook in both 2000 and Office xp is that it will not hold on to the email password and has to be entered each time, but it does work if you can put up with that.
