Urgent help needed re 3G Dongle

[link to this post]

Possibly not the best place for this - but here goes.

MacFriar [ normally a MacHead ] is in France using a Netbook [ don't know which ,with XP on it ] Has bought a 3G Dongle from SFR to allow internet access

BUT
I am having probs getting 3G to work with IE . Can you make ADSL inquiry

Now at this stage he's stuck with IE - so please no suggestions re use of FF

Can anyone make suggestions - remembering that these will have to be passed by SMS - he has no landline access .

All help will be relayed to him as it comes in.

Is he connecting OK? Can he, for example, email or ping? My 3 dongle doesn't seem fussed which browser it works with.

Ah - now remember he is normally in the USA and I'm here smile

This time he's in Belgium and where am I - here smile

you know as much as I do - I quoted the whole SMS .

However since then I've had an e-mail laugh at roughly 3pm here

Dont ask me what, but it is now working though slowly. 7.3MPS. It only took nearly an hour to get it figured out, and I do not know but it works. I will check later on for a reply.

I did reply immediately and got one back. I'll find out once he's back in Paris where he hooks up to WiFi in his hotel [ Campanile] with no problem.

SFR seems to have a different policy with charging for the Dongles - you buy the number of HOURS that you want - he had 20 but I suspect that at least an hour has probably been used by now.

He doesn't propose to use it a lot but needs to upload photos of which he's likely to be taking hundreds for a project.

I'll keep in touch probably by SMS rather than e-mail and/or Skype leaving him able to contact the USA easily.

Oh I don't know if he has FF on the net book - I know he has it as 'light' as possbile
