Speedtest oddity - two PCs on same connection

If this is in the wrong place, please move but....
Don't know exactly where to ask for help on this so here's the problem:

I'm with BE* and have one PC connected bt ethernet and the other by wireless both running Windows 7 RC as the only o/s
To do these tests I disabled all running programs and nothing was being down or uploaded.
The BeBox router states
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,079 / 12,856

The command ping test result is exactly the same on both PCs but speedtest results (no matter which test is run) are higher on the (older) PC connected wirelessly than on the one connected by ethernet - I find this odd.

Speedtest results:

Note not only the difference in speed but the ping is vastly higher on the main/ethernet connected PC
The main PC is much slower in loading webpages than the old PC often taking up to a minute to load and often stops loading pages.

I have tried connecting the main PC by wireless and the old PC by ethernet and the results are the same

I'm completely bamboozled by this and any help is welcome

As in what exactly, what's the consistent factor, the connection method or the PC used?

is that the new PC is always slower? or the wireless is always faster?

do you have the same anti-virus software on both? have you tried disabling it for speed tests. Might be worth disabling the firewall to see if issue lies there.

It might be network card driver issues - have you got the latest version installed.

If it were always the wired connection, I'd go with it being stuck in 10meg ethernet mode.

You shouldn't be surprised that the wireless connection isn't slower than the ethernet. Both are much faster than your ADSL connection, so that is the slowest link in the chain. It's not quite clear what you are saying. When the old PC is connected by ethernet and the new one wirelessly, which is slowest? If the ethernet connection is always slowest it could be something as simple as a duff cable.

The wireless connection is much faster on the old PC (as the links show) with far lower pings
As I said if i use ethernet on the old PC the results are the same as with wireless

The main PC gives the same poorer results connected either by ethernet or wireless.

I have tried 3 different etehrnet cables with no difference on either the main or old PC

To summarise:
the old PC connected by ethernet or wireless is slower than the main (better specified) PC connected by ethernet or wireless
but
a command ping test gives the same result on both machines however connected

The settings are at Full Duplex 100mbs as advised by BE* support

As I also said I disabled all running programs (including all securityprograms)
The ethernet card drivers are up to date and I've even tried a bew card
