Windows 7 pre orders from PC World

[link to this post]

Did anyone else pre order Windows 7 from PC World?

And recieve it before the postal strikes started?

They told me they shipped the pre orders early with Microsofts permission because of the postal strikes last week and that mine was shipped on the 15th. I would have expected it to arrive before the first strike day crazy

you are lucky. I bought laptop from Dell with Vista plus the upgrade to windows 7. I have yet to receive any email or communication from them. I just dread the telephone call.

Don't answer the phone, then.

A lot of people did receive their Windows 7 from PC World before the strike, and before it was officially released, and I certainly think yours should have arrived by now. After all, there has only been one day's post missed so far (at least in my part of the country). I would be inclined to report it to PC World as lost in the post and ask for a replacement. If you're really lucky they might let you pick a copy up from your local branch.

Amazon took the more sensible step of using an alternative carrier.

Mine came by Royal Mail on Tuesday 20/10/09, two days before the launch. Which was nice.

Have spoken to Royal Mail and PC World.

Royal Mail wont attempt to trace the package until they recieve an official claim and its 15 days or over.

PC World say they will make the claim, in the meantime they despatch replacement goods. Only the person at PC World Head Office only sanctioned 1 copy of Windows 7 it should have been 2 copies as per the original order.

Awaiting confirmation and asked them to try to ship via DHL who is the only other courier company they use.

Personally, I'd rather amputate my own leg than deal with DSG Retail.

You may find this useful wink

Not dealt with Dixons Group for years but did buy from them in 1957, by mail order, when they were above a shop in Edgware.

Personally I've taken up Toshiba's Win7 offer which they say will come by DHL

I also bought a Dell laptop and registered for an upgrade. But I never been notified of the delivery arrangement. I had to contact them and pay £15, and still have no idea when it will be delivered if at all.

My copy was delivered by DHL and was just put through the letter box even though we should have signed for it

They've sorted this for me, nearly.

They first said they will despatch replacement items and make a claim for the original consigment direct with Royal Mail themselves. This process is handled by PC World head office.

Only somebody put only 1 copy up for redelivery when it should have been 2 copies as per the original pre order.

Recieved 1 copy shipped via DHL on Friday and after a few phonecalls about the second copy, looks like I'll recieve it tomorrow, again via DHL.

Well I'm not very impressed with DHL crazy. The first copy arrived no probs. The second copy arrived on the day it was supposed to, but the box (Windows 7 outer box) was crushed. Opened it up the plastic case was smashed into 3 pieces, it's a miracle the DVD's weren't damaged.

Rang PC World customer services, they've offered to replace it. I think I'll take the offer.

I have to say that, against the expectations of many, you should be impressed by PC World. They seem to have done everything you could expect of them.

Edit: Meant to reply to your susequent post. Never mind.
