Right click on it. Make sure "Lock the taskbar" is unchecked. Then just drag it back to the bottom.

Tried that and it wont have any of it. The amount of spyware he has on this laptop is unbelievable shocked

No wonder why he can not web browse, its been hijacked left right and center and looking at the anti virus, its not been updated since feb. So i will install another and see what nastiest he has been infected with.

I'd just tell him to provide you with the windows installation disks and start from scratch, tell him all his documents and data were corrupted with viruses and can't be restored, so this was the only solution.

and make sure to emphasise to him it is all his own fault, as you hit format on a new instal of windows, and when he asks did you try to get any of his files, tell him thats what you have been doing all day (and it was not you he seen in the pub today, it was your brother)

He hasn't got any disks, iv all but given up on it, its so full of viruses and spyware that nothing can be done apart from a fresh install.

I will give it back to him on Monday, not wasting any more time on some thing that has clearly been neglected due to laziness and ignorance.
