Anyone else missing Windows mail in W7?

I've managed to reinstall it!

No way was I going to download that new live mail rubbish!

Yeh i had this issue when i installed windows 7. I downloaded thunderbird to use as my email program.

Or u could just of used microsoft office outlook its better than both windows mail and windows live mail its basicly a more advanced windows mail (outlook express) i use both office outlook but im glad you did find a way to get it back a friend of mine liked windows mail because it was simple layout n she isent very good with computers and always ended up messin everythng up with office outlook so maby theres hope for her to get it back altho she using windows mail now do you have a link to the place you found the info on

Here you go:

# Grant full control permissions and ownership to administrators for %SystemDrive%\Program Files\Windows Mail\ folder in Windows 7 system.
# Backup the %SystemDrive%\Program Files\Windows Mail\ folder in Windows 7.
# Extract and copy the Windows Mail files from Windows Vista to %SystemDrive%\Program Files\Windows Mail\ folder of Windows 7, overwrite if duplicates are found. (here you go, I've uploaded this here for you: http://www.easy-share.com/1908525086/WindowsMail.rar )
# Create a shortcut on desktop or Start Menu that points to %SystemDrive%\Program Files\Windows Mail\winmail.exe executable.

Finally to get the default program associations sorted, you need to enter a couple of reg files to the registry:

Why? Why should have an app that has extra functionality that I'm not going to use. Why do I need to install an email client that's 20mb+ odd - for that sort of payload, I may as well go all the way and install outlook! Windows mail is a simple program that does the job, loads in a couple of secs, and does what I need it to.

I might be jumping the gun, but I'm sick of anything associated with Windows live. That includes messenger and all the other msn stuff.

I just see It as microsoft's way of forcing us into online intergration with these live enabled applications as part of their battle with Google ...

Now you tell me why you think it's so great? If your argument is convincing enough, I'll go and download it !

Woahhh!

I never claimed it to be a good application, I just wondered why you considered it "rubbish"

I am using Windows Live Mail.
It appears to do as good as a job as any other email client and on my particular installation has no association with live anything (I am only using it with POP servers).

I expect you already know but during installation you have the option to customise the installed components. Like you I hate anything which maintains a "live" link, supplying my emails and contacts' info to goodness knows who. For this reason I select to install the "Mail" component only.
All of my emails (as far as I'm aware) are stored locally as soon as I hook them off the server.

The day Microsoft's email client forces us to use Messenger and/or MSN or other pathetic "live" applications will be the day I migrate to another one!
