No contact list in latest version of Windows Live Messenger

Hiya,

When my (very untechnically minded) friend logs onto his WLM the contact list does not appear, if I click on the scroll bar WLM crashes and asks if I want to send an error report.

The same account works fine on another PC.

Have tried uninstalling, cleaning registry with Ccleaner then reinstalling but the same problem occurs

Any idea?

Simple solution: switch to Pidgin.

hmmmmm but then he would have to learn how to use something new............................ that could take a while with him

Try re-installing WLM.

Like I said, been there, done that and no difference

Is there a way to clean up all WLM settings from the registry and local setings etc?

This is apparently the solution
On the taskbar, right-click Start, and then select Explore.
Navigate to the folder C:\Documents and Settings\Your Windows logon name\Contacts\Your Messenger e-mail address.
Delete all of the files in the folder.
Navigate to the folder C:\Documents and Settings\Your Windows logon name\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts\Your Messenger e-mail address.
Delete all of the folders and hidden folders in the Your Messenger e-mail address folder.
Close Windows Explorer and try to sign in to Messenger again.

I will see if it works tomorrow.......

It didnt work
Ended up going back to msn msgr v8 and running in Windows 2k compatibility mode
