This may be a "common" problem but I do not know how to deal with this! I have a laptop and I have forgotten my Windows 7 Professional Password for my Administrator Account, though I could log in to my other non-Admin accounts O.K. Worse of all I have not created a "Reset Password" disc/USB device therefore there is NO way I could instruct W7 to reset my Admin's Password as it keeps complaining about a previous "Password Reset" disc is NOT found.
So would there be a way, either through some genius Freewares or other means, that would enable me to log in to my Administrator Account and subsequently reset my Admin Password please?? Or I may need to send it back to my laptop Supplier to do something about it??
Thanks

Hi, thank you for the reply! I was busy recently and could not see your post in time. I have seen the link that you provided and there is a piece of "free" SW that may do it for me. I will try that "carefully" for my Windows 7 Professional password reset for my laptop.
Thank you once again!!

be careful changing passwords like this if you have encrypted folders

I realise it may be risking ALL my previous Adminstrator's "encrypted folders" becoming unreadable IF I change its password like that. However, what else can I do if I can not log-in to undo the encryption in the first place. By the way, my laptop does indeed have account dependent "encrypted folders", which means the risk that you have highlighted could be real! Thanks

Thank you for your suggestion! After a few inquiries I am sure that I have never enabled Encryption in any of my Folders or User accounts, which means I will not lose any encrypted folders, since they don't exist in my laptop, even I intend to reset/remove Password. I have found some Free SWs through other user's recommendations which could do what I wanted.
Thank you for your suggestions anyway!

Thank you for your link and the recommended SW! Indeed I just purchased this V4 SW and been successfully removed my forgotten password in Windows 7 with no other complications at all. It is a very useful SW but that said I'm now having second thought about the general Password Security of my Windows OS since it is proven easily "cracked" for abnormal use!!!
Thanks

Thank you for your tips! I indeed have reset my Windows 7 Pro's Administrator Password using a commercial SW called Windows Login Recovery 4, which is proving very easy to use and did the job for me. Besides I do NOT have any encrypted folders beforehand and therefore it didn't bother me to lose my encrypted folders IF I reset my Admin Password at all. All in all my problem, I believe, has been solved through your and experts' advice here which I have fully appreciated and thank you for! Cheers

As you've discovered, for anything but the very simplest level of "security", the Windows logon password system is absolutely useless.

Yeah! I would agree that as one can reset the Windows PASSWORD and gain access to all the Administrator's files. using appropriate Password Recovery SWs. But it may be a good point for genuine users such as myself though.
Thanks

I've used Ophcrack on XP a few times to find the password rather than reset it.

My attention was drawn to the number of anons and newbies posting in this thread, and on closer examination it seems to be a magnet for advertising spammers... In view of that, together with its age, I've closed it.
