The problem has existed since building the system last week.

I really don't want to go through a rebuild, I've put so much software on it over the past week I'd 'cry' at having to do it again.

A repair might be possible, any hints or tips on how to go about it?

Bingo! That worked. And checking Microsoft Update that agrees as well.

Looking at the log file there's no references to "Waiting for watson...". That makes me wonder if it was trying to process an error, create a dump or something.

Ah well, looks OK now.
