Click 'Start' and in the search box just above the start button, type:
command
At the top of the search screen you'll see a line which says 'command prompt'. Click it and it opens a Dos window.
Once there type:
ping
www.zedge.net
Here's a copy of my ping:
>ping www.zedge.net

If your system can't see it you should get something other than:
Reply from 74.54.84.200: bytes=32 time=133ms TTL=46
Probably something like:
Reply from 74.54.84.200: Destination host unreachable.
When you're done, type 'exit' to close the command window.
