W7, Acer Arcade and stuttering BluRays

I have an Acer Aspire 8920G latop which i upgraded from Vista to W7. I could never find a suitable bluray player until i found the original Acer Arcade software that includes bluray support. When I play a bluray disk, its stutters and is unwatchable. The software has updated 3 times tonight but it still does it.

I have tried WinDVD and Arcsoft Total Media 5 and they both stutter too. All my hardware drivers are up to date as is Windows.

Can anyone suggest what might be wrong and how to go about fixing it?

What version of W7 did you upgrade to?

Is this on mains or battery?

How much RAM do you have?

Are any other apps running?

I upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium edition and the issue occurs regardless of whether it is on mains or battery. The laptop has its max of 4GB installed.

Try upping the priority of the app in Task Manager.

Are you running anti-virus? Try disabling all other apps.

Are you running the latest video card driver which makes best use of hardware grraphic acceleration rather than relying on the poor old main processior to do all the hard work?

Might be worth downloading VLC and seeing if that does any better than you current player. It tends to be very efficient compared to some players.

Does temporarily disabling AV and other security software make any difference? Is there an option within the players you use to create a dedicated temp folder/

The only player I have found that is any good at Bluray is "Cyberlink Power DVD 10"
I'm using it on a desktop rather than a laptop but it's the best I have found.

I'd also use a laser lens cleaner.

If you can play CDs ok, but Vids stutter/can't read, you may have a kaput drive.

fwiw I know someone else with an 8920G. His needed its dual lamp inverter replacing.

In passing he also mentioned that the Bluray device was ok to start with but had become unusable and had similar issues to yours, I googled around for a while to see what I could see and after a while concluded that the cause was, probably, upgraded driver software or possibly firmware. tbh I cant recall exactly. He thought the player might be at fault and wanted to buy a new one.

I ran out of talent shortly afterwards, and in any event he attempted to power it up using the wrong PSU resulting in one dead laptop. Check around forums, eventually, you'll find an interminably long thread on the subject.
