Burning DVDs & CDs on Vista Home Basic

A friend has a PC running Vista Home Basic with a CD/DVD reader. He's asked me to change it for a writer so he can make copies of photos etc. As far as I can see Home Basic doesn't appear to have DVD burning software, though can possible use Windows Media Player to burn CDs.

Is this correct?

What software can be readily and inexpensively obtained and installed that would give CD & DVD burning capability? Any freeware?

deepburner (free)
but doesn't cope with double layer disks (8GB) well

I doubt if double layer discs will be a problem smile
