Virtual Machine

I have set up a VM on my Win 7 (64 bit) PC. I have installed and authorised a copy of Win XP in the VM. Every time I start the VM I get the message " could not enable integration features". When I go to tools the "enable integration features" is greyed out. I have tried several fixes found in searching but either it finishes up at a dead end or does not work and some I could not understand. Can anyone offer a solution?

Just to be clear, is this using 'XP mode', ie Microsoft Virtual PC?

I have installed XP on the visual machine I created. My version of 7 does not support XPmode

Thanks for that. I had tried that earlier but got stuck at the command prompt stage. It did not accept the command. Maybe I did not understand how to do it.

Try Virtualbox. It's better.

Honestly, if you haven't got XPmode, I wouldn't bother with Virtual PC. Virtualbox has a much better feature set, as has VMware.

Back to the question though, have you installed the integration components in the guest OS?

Did you enter the command exactly as listed? What was the error returned?

I think that the reason it is greyed out is because I had alreadyset it up and the problem was further back with permissions which are now dealt with. So no need for further action.

Thanks , both look OK but having installed and updated everything on the Microsoft product and endured about 140 XP updates I don't want to start again. Have identified that probably the problem is with access permissions and as the VM is to enable use of older hardware which is not used that frequently I can work round that
