Windows 7 Logon Error

Hi,

We have a network running on server 2008 with xp pcs. We have just bought new pcs with windows 7 professional and have added them unto the network and all has been well until someone who did not have administrative rights logged on, which then brings up this error message - "The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded." and logs them off.
They have no issues logging on the xp pcs. The explanation on microsoft's website mentions temporary profile and deleting the profile having the issues and deleting etc, but these are new pcs and those people have not logged on before.

Where were these PCs bought from, were they purchased as "business" PCs or consumer? You never know what rubbish the OEMs shove on them which may cause this.

If we are not talking many PCs perhaps try a fresh install of Windows 7 rather than relying on the factory build copy. I would bet this would cure the issues.

The main cause of this is when someone deletes a user profiles from C:\Users (like they could on XP without trouble) rather than using delprof - then the account is put into a permanent* faulty state on the machine in question.

Failing this I would look at your GPOs to make sure nothing is incomatible there (which would be rather unlikely), try moving a computer to an OU with blocked inheritance and see if issue still occurs on another account, then, try creating a test account in an OU with blocked inheritance and see if the issue is still there.

Oh, also check the event viewer!
