I have just put a spare HD in my PC which has been recognised and I can copy/move files to. When booting the machine, I get a page that flashes up with regard to Matrix Storage Manager and it shows the 2 drives. Is this something to worry about and is there a way that I can fix it so this page does not flash up again?

A quick Google shows that it seems to be some sort of RAID arrangement. If you did not intend to set up a RAID system when you added another hard drive, then peruse the .pdf document at the link below.

If you mobo supports RAID, there should be a BIOS setting to disable it.

Have been looking at the BIOS but unless I risk wiping the HD then there seems to be no option to turn this off.

I have long had two hard drives and a Mirror RAID set-up. All functions in the background whenever I mouse on the save icon. It has saved my bacon several times cos HD's fail. But I have had more grief from the wretched Promise Raid Controller than I care to dwell on, repeatedly having to rebuild the array. Yeh, not so very hard but terrybull tedious.
I finally ditched twin HD and the Promise RAID controller and now use a single internal HD and save as&when to an external hard drive. Perhaps not an ideal solution but less tedious than Mirror RAID.

I too use a single internal hard drive and use Genie Timeline to continually feed changes to an external drive, performance impact is negligible on my PC.
To be honest though (famous last words...) I've never had a hard drive fail on me. My internal 1TB Seagate is 12 months old, 1 of the external drives is 250GB Maxtor, nearly 7 years old, the other 2 are 250GB Maxtors nearly 4 years old.

Sort of ditto. Never had a hard drive fail.
Backup to two other machines daily.
Backup to external hard drive and firesafe on Sunday.

Mind you that is for personal use. Business use is treated a little more seriously!
