Experienc of Win7 64bits update in corrupting my laptop!!

I received my new Acer Win7 64bits laptop from Amazon this Tuesday and installed all files plus updated to the latest Windpws 7 updates as required! But then I discovered that my McAphee Internet Security plus other Applications, such as Windows Media Player, would not work or just crashed. Despite I spent the whole day trying to resolve this but had gone no where, and being a new laptop just received I tended to blame the my new laptop instead. I was preparing to send the request to Amazon for a "Return" because there is no facility in my laptop for re-installing the OS. But suddenly I awared that my laptop had just been silently updated again (just set to automatic updates) through my wireless internet. So as a last attempt, I rebooted my laptop and tried again, thinking of just in case it was due to my recent Windows 7 64-bit updates created this problem! Indeed it was, because my new Acer Win7 64bits laptop is now working normally as expected and there is NO more crashes or Applications not working!!
I posted this so that for someone in my similar position should be aware this before blaming your NEW PCs/Laptops!!

last month was a hp update for dual monitors on the hp docking station via windows update

caused all the dual monitors to have low res or fail to boot

There will be a reinstall option. Just a case of finding it.

Generally I advise against doing hardware updates through WU as it installs generic basic drivers i.e. removing most configuration options. Visiting the vendors website and updating to the latest will yield more success.

You were right about reinstalling my Acer laptop OS, I found the required "keys-sequence" after researching on Acer web-site and tested it works O.K. Thanks

Oops, made sense to me and the important bit was the acer program that makes a fair few disks that get it back to the day you have the computer. Just seening if he knew about that. Not to worry. Will take the photo of picassa web albums and all the other photos I did for here. Old ones and now this posting has gone yesterdays can go. Problem sorted!.

I have a couple of old printers which work well. There are no new drivers for them on the manufacturers website so left it to WU to install generic drivers.

Voila - they work a treat.
