Firefox master password

I went to save a site password on Firefox today, & it asked for the master password

I can't remember it

I've tried all the passwords that I use for everything else, but no joy.

Does anyone know where the passwords are kept, so that I can delete the file & start again.

I normally use IE9, & only rarely use Firefox & Waterfox (both effected). Pale Moon is ok as no master password set for it.

There is an add-on Password Exporter which is at v1.2.1 and found on the add-ons page https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/passw... and https://github.com/fligtar/password-exporter/wiki

Use that to export them all before you delete them.

In FF it is nder <Tools> <Options> <Security> and if you unclick master PWD it should give you a delete all option.

That also asked for the master password, BUT I then tried a couple of passwords that I remembered using on one of my other computers (for totally different software) & bingo!! I'm now in & now it's changed to one that I know

Have you done an export and saved the file somewhere else so that if you really do have to erase everything you will have a copy?
