Win 8 and Ethernet

Plugged my new W8 Toshiba laptop into a router via ethernet cable. The port light on the router lights up but the laptop doesn't connect to the internet. I've tried re-installing drivers for the network adapter Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller, but the installed drivers are current.

drivers built in or downloaded from Tosh ? does device manager seem happy ? "cable unplugged" or other message ?

Drivers were included with W8. Device Manager tells me the adapter is working OK. Don't get any unplugged messages or anything else. I've tried two different cables that work OK on a Vista laptop.

It won't even connect to the router interface.

I had the same problem with quoted driver on Toshiba 64bit upgrade. Stopped working after few days. Reinstalled OS to solve problem.
Green light shows hardware OK.
Check Windows updates installed and see if Realtek driver update was installed. This has caused problems to others.
Time for you to contact Toshiba.
Personally gone back to windows 7 as windows 8, for me, was a mistake.

I would be visiting Tosh web site for W8 drivers personally.

If you can connect it wirelessly Windows Update might offer an updated driver, possibly uner Optional drivers.

That sorted it. Thanks Phil. Although the installed drivers were the same version number as ones on the Toshiba site, I downloaded and installed again.

The few i know that have had windows 8, including myself, seems to have had problems with network drivers. it seems like they are using windo2ws 7 versions and they just don't seem to work with windows 8.

My wireless adapter is using a windows 8 beta driver at the moment and to use the ethernet I have to download new drivers.
