IE 10 needs eye surgery

So now I can reveal a password that I'm typing by clicking on the eye icon at the end of the box. Wow - I'm so glad that IE10 is so much more secure than other versions!

Lots of people seeking a simple fix to get rid, apparently. Editing the registry is not for everyone though, and that seems to be the solution of choice.

Excellent link. Many thanks - it worked! But I really can't understand why Microsoft would include such an obvious flaw in a new OS.

I'm not a user of IE but it seems like a handy feature not a flaw.

It's certainly a deliberate feature, and could be useful when troubleshooting.. I guess that Microsoft believe that their users are more sensible than to use it whilst someone is watching. Those that aren't probably have their passwords written on a sticky attached to the monitor.

Also useful for sites that have bizarre password policies. I recently opened an account with Newcastle BS and they insist the first time you log in you enter your password in all upper case and subsequently it will be case sensitive. So I have to jump through the hoop of copying the password from my password manager into notepad, change all the lower case letters to upper case and paste the result into Chrome. If you had the option to see the password in the password box it would be fewer steps. Of course not having stupid password rules in the first place would be even better!

I agree that it is useful for savvy users, but what amazed me was that it seems work on highly sensitive financial sites too. I logged on to one of my credit card's web page and it offered to let me see my passcode. Not good!

How would someone else see your password? I can't understand the problem. Surely it's up to you to click the eye only when no-one else can see?

Exactly. I find it very useful as these days I have several rather complex passwords and it's very easy to lose track when using purely memory.

Anyone got an Android phone that doesn't have this facility? I have an SIII and never seen or heard any complaints about that tick-box.
