Windows 8 installation error

Having trouble with a new installation of Windows 8 x64 - at 32% of the "copying files", I get the "Windows cannot install needed files. The file may be corrupt or missing" (0x80070570)

I've tried 2 different DVD drives, 2 different copies of Windows 8 (DVD) and changed the SATA cables. Memory is fine. And of course the computer can handle 64-bit OS

I think it is the Hybrid SSD hard drive - unfortunately the postie decided to drop the package through the letterbox instead of just handing it to us...

One thing you could try doing is creating a bogus partition of 50% of the drive size and then installing Windows onto the NEXT partition, i.e., forcing Windows to install to a different logical location. I say logical, because drive circuitry provides an abstraction nowadays anyway so it is anyone's guess as to where the bits are actually being stored. At least this may provide some sort of indication that it is indeed the hybrid drive, if that suggestion works.

I would be looking at memory though initially, but you say it is fine?

Perhaps run a disk test utility of some sort against the SSD. Also try replacing the SATA cable for both DVD drive and SSD (if you've just done one..) and ensuring mobo is at BIOS default and on latest firmware.

Yes, Windows reported that the memory was fine (did an extended test), but it appears there is a massive problem with it (when using memtest).

So, I think the problem is solved - just need to get more memory now...

Seems that another of Microsoft tools isn't exactly up to scratch...

Do you just have the one hard disk?

If you have a second hard disk try disconnecting that whilst you install

Only had one hard drive.

It's all up and running now, although mem86+ doesn't seem to like 16GB RAM (just keeps resetting the machine), although it is supposed to be the latest version... It has no trouble with 8GB though

Can your MB handle 16GB?

Yes, thats why I've got 16GB in there...

I can physically put 2 8GB sticks in my laptop but it will only handle up to 4GB.

Does your documentation state that your machine CAN handle 16GB, especially if 8GB was ok.

Yes, it can - otherwise I wouldn't be wasting money with memory that wouldn't be used...

16GB is unfortunately the limit for the motherboard...

Why "unfortunately" ? How many programmes do you require to run concurrently?
