Came across a link to a new OS on another Windows forum called FenOS. Apparently it can run programs from Windows, Mac and Linux. At 49 it certainly isn't expensive and claims to run on any current hardware. Windows killer or not?

Hmm... well first of all it's not even cheaper than Windows (if buying via OEM) so that is questionable, and then the whole technical thing is another story... My verdict: A load of baloney

I agree: total baloney. If they produced anything remotely capable of doing what they claim it would be a very impressive technical achievement. Bearing in mind the millions Microsoft spend to make applications compatible even between different versions of Windows and the effort put into making Windows apps run on Linux and Mac. But to produce it in a way that won't see them sued out of existence by Microsoft/Apple and others who hold technology patents, copyrights and trademarks is beyond the realm of plausibility.

Certainly one to keep any eye on, around 9th September.

Windows 7 or 8 OEM certainly isn't less than £49...

Technically you should, but most online sellers don't mind you dont...

It would only be a problem if they actually used source code from Windows itself - don't forget that WINE can run a fair bit of Windows programs, and whist they did have trouble with Microsoft to start with, the latter realised that they couldn't really do much.
Whether it will turn out like that previous OS that-never-was (PearOS?), I dont know - we will have to wait and see

They can be - not necessarily talking about the OEM licenses you buy off eBuyer or whatever btw... And anyhow there was an introductory offer when Windows 8 was released for several months which was only £25.00. Everyone had the chance to buy a license then and it was well advertised.
AND the same with Windows 7 Home Premium..... I stockpiled enough licenses for myself and to sell to others (family/friends... at no profit... mainly as part of repairing their existing PC if HDD failed or whatever)... I've never paid over £30 for a Windows license for the past 5 years.

It's nothing more than a gimmick but some people will be daft enough to buy it... I can't see many uses for it at all..
Says a lot when a google for "FenOS" only shows up 5 results before showing linkedin profiles of people called Fenos.

It's been mooted for the last few years, keeps getting delayed.

It would only be a problem if they actually used source code from Windows itself I think the licenses for Windows and Mac apps disallow running them on other OS's

Must have missed that then...

£25 for two years of problems. I'll keep my money and my free time.

I don't think you would have any problems, but hey-ho, don't let facts get in the way of a one liner eh!

What the two years of testing that every Windows OS goes through before it becomes stable, secure and worthwhile OS?
Ignore history all you like.
