Safety of automatic logon to Windows Mail

I have a newish W8 laptop and I see that it will log me onto my Hotmail account automatically and I can see any new mail in the app on the Start screen. As I use Hotmail mainly for vouchers and very little personal stuff, this is quite useful. It struck me though that this is permanently live and presents quite a security risk if the laptop is stolen. I have a power on password and a separate one for my W8 user account which isn't my Windows Mail password, so there are two levels of security. Is there a way of logging out of this system once I've seen if there are any new emails?

You enabled 2 step verification on Hotmail/Outlook?

If you have, then your laptop would be on the trusted list of device so that you dont need to enter a code everytime you login. If you ever did have the laptop stolen or whatever, you can login from another device and delete the trusted PC from the list, meaning anyone trying to gain access would need the code that gets text to you. See as they dont have your phone, they wont be able to login

Have you considered using Bitlocker?

I believe it's pretty secure
