My W7 Home Premium 64 bit sysrem is continually filling the hard drive and eating all the free space; despite me having set a limit.
After a few weeks the drive is full again and I have to go back and reset the limit back down to regain the space. It's as if something is over-riding my manually set limit.
Any ideas?

What "limit", and how is system restore involved? How big is your drive, and what software are you running?
Edit: If you are using Avast, this may be relevant.

The disk paste iis being used up by system restore points.
Every 6-8 weeks, I see that m and I have to C: drive in "My Computer" has turned red manually delete system restore points to recover the free space.
At the same time, I always reset the maximum usage to a lower figure, last time it was 3GB. Howver Windows seems to ignore this and just just all available space over time an
Software used day to day is Firefox, Chrome, Word and VLC. Also use KODI quite a lot.

I may have an answer! Are any of you using Avast! antivirus?
While googling around I found this thread on the Avast! forums: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=162041.0
According to this thread, this may be caused by the "NG" piece of the new version of Avast!, meaning you just have to go into control panel, programs and features, select Avast!, click CHANGE (not uninstall), and deselect the NG feature, as well as any others you don't use or are premium features like Grimefighter, Remote Assistance, SecureLine, and the gadget.
Hope I helped at least one of you!

It's the WinSxS folder. See how it grows!

Now on Win7 and have 10GB winsxs for 90GB used on a 250GB SSD. I made a point of going to 250GB because of unforeseen future bloat. 170MB added in updates today as it happens. No noticeable addition to winsxs size. It still makes up about 45% of the Windows folder, but at 20GB or so, it's not a massive deal.
Glad I held off getting an SSD until the larger capacities were reasonably priced.
