No Windows 7 updates for a month?

[link to this post]

Has anyone else noticed that there have been no W7 updates for more than a month? The 10 optional updates I have received seem aimed at developers and have features I don't need.

Such a change from the end of last year when W10 downloads for our two PCs hogged my bandwidth for a couple of days.

Looking here there haven't been any since the beginning of March https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/security...

That ties with my logs: last updates installed 10/03/2016. It just seems odd after the flood of updates earlier in the year and I wondered if W7 had been forgotten in all the W10 razzmatazz.

I did try W10 for all of half a day before I tired of the gimmicks, driver problems and incompatibility with older programmes and went back to W7. Those who object to Microsoft telemetry/data mining/spying will probably know about Safer Networking's generous gift of Spybot, if not it's here

You only get security updates for Windows 7, and you would hope by now that most vulnerabilities have already been taken care of.

I just installed win xp sp3 on my ancient laptop and there were 105 updates. You would have thought there were still some holes in W7.

Those were updates since SP3, not recent updates. If you installed a new copy of Windows 7 you would also get a huge number of updates.

OK, spoke too soon! Just triggered them.

Only 1 real Win 10 update; rest misc. or Office.

I've had two new builds since then, with some really interesting features.

Even on patch Tuesday there are only half a dozen

On a side note anyone find the Windows 7 version of Windows Update pretty useless at times? On patch Tuesday it can take over 30 mins to search for updates, then takes forever to download them

XP must be safe to use as all the vulnerabilities will have been taken care of.

Using XP on my Laptop as max ram is 160mb and nothing else will work apart from 98. Most of the Win 10 updates are rolled up in a cumulative update, but if you look at the win 10 history site there is a lot of bug fixes in there and some security fixes too.

Having started this thread, I received nine W7 updates yesterday. When the TBB community starts posting, Microsoft trembles smile

Either that or it is just that Microsoft release patches on the 2nd Tuesday of every month.

Oh, wait...

I had a few for Windows 8.1 as well, one of them I have no idea what it does, if I cick on the link to find out what it does I get a error on the website saying it can not be found, so until I find out what it does, it will stay hidden.

Or it could be that W7 is a good OS and needs very few updates/fixes.

We had updates every week around the turn of the year, I seem to recall 14 one week. Then I noticed our usage was way over double our normal figure. Perhaps it was all the downloads for W10?

Much of the code base has remained unchanged since Vista, which is why when updates are released very often there will be updates for the same issue for Vista, 7, 8.1 and 10 simultaneously, e.g this one released a few days ago https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3148527
