Have Microsoft taken this out complexly in windows 10 creator edition? I have edited the registry and still can not get it. It is far better than the rubbish Universal thing that MS have put in Windows 10.
i want windows 8 back.

I was assuming that was what the OP had already tried when said about editing the registry. The fixes on the net seem to be pre-creator edition so wondering if the new edition has removed the executables from the build now.

It's a dll, still present in my 1703 installation at "C:\Program Files\Windows Photo Viewer\PhotoViewer.dll".

Did you use the free app or manual input?

You still need to set the app as default. M$ do all they can to force you to use their apps and not 3rd party stuff.

I used their script.

I know, i looked for it in the apps and it was not there. But now it is, very strange, I even rebooted the machine, but it was still not visible, but I just had another look and it is there.
It is not third party it is Ms own software, just an older one and not horrid universal rubbish. you are right Ms will try anything to get us to use rubbish Windows 10 apps. If I can get windows 8 working on this machine i will go back to that.

I was referring to the Winaero Tweaker. Is that what you meant when you said script?

Thing is M$ have shafted Win 8 too, all the telemetry and data mining stuff is in there too.
Latest Win 10 release has removed even more of the settings that were still available in gpedit.msc , it has got to the point now where Windows disappears and Linux replaces it on all my kit.
Users are no longer going to be allowed to decide how they use their PC/Laptop and what software they run.
M$ were prosecuted and fined over IE being embedded , yet they are doing more of the same with Win 10.
The Linux photo viewers / editors and media players are far better than anything available on Windows.

Sorry, I used a Registry Script, now it is working, so that is good news.
i find the older photo viewer better than what is in Windows 10, it does what it says on the tin and not have a load of other features that is not needed.

But they can be removed pretty easily if you know what updates not to install and also it is not as intergrated as windows 10 Telemetry is.

i would love to do that, but my video editor is Mac or Windows only.

This is what I do not understand is how MS is allowed to get away with this, but then I suppose they are friends with the U.S government, the E.U and our own government.

I know, i use Linux on my laptop. I did try to install it on here but for some reason it would not. It would only be a second OS, but nice to use.

For what it's worth, I find Irfanview perfect for most quick edit, and general viewing of images. It has a slideshow feature too.
Between that and MS Paint, the non-pro users can get a fair bit done.

+1 - It's my default image viewer and my 'goto' for batch renaming, cropping, re-sizing, re-sampling etc. etc. Part of my basic software installation on every new machine I buy.

+1 -- I like FastStone.
'Sir, please,' she said ... 'Will you not share your wisdom with us?'
'I have no wisdom,' he told her.
'Your experiences, then?'
'They have been trivial, uninteresting, and full of error.'
