I am not too sure what you are trying to say or ask, I am using Windows 10 Version 1809 (OS Build 17763.504) and that actual update installed fine.
Paul

|
|
Then why would it be that I'm still on 1803 & not 1809? Available for any user who manually selects Check for updates via Windows Update. Where would I find that? It is often "Checking for updates" of its own accord. There is no explicit Check for updates button to manually select on the Settings / Windows Update page.

Unless 1809 is the "Insider" version or whatever the early adopter/Beta tester version is. I know that's what Banger is on.

I was just asking the OP of their post, or was they just saying there was an update.
That's why I was asking.

I am not on any of those, yet I have 1809, but mine was a brought copy of Windows 10 Pro Retail.

There are no PMs involved. I thought I was asking a straightforward Q in public. So I dunno why Paul is querying his answer to me.
It's a relief to hear that I'm not being left behind & not the only 1 on 1803. If it is your "unless" that would have been the simple answer to me.

Settings/windows update/check for updates.
It should have installed last october, you might as well wait for 1903 which is due very soon. Windows 10 home or pro? Did you buy a machine with 1803 pre-installed after october?
To update now go to https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/wi... and click update on the page but as some pundits are suggesting 1903 could be as soon as this week I recommend you wait.

Settings/windows update/check for updates. As I said earlier there is no such thing on my Win 10 Home system. I bought it in Dec 2015 with Win 10 pre-installed with what must be the initial public version prior to 1607 Anniversary Update.
As we now seem to be going round in circles & I find I'm in good company with RobertoS I guess I'm never gonna find out the reason why I'm still on the "old" 1803 & I'll just wait till MS decides to update me further as it's always done.
All I'm interested in at this stage is why I haven't been updated like others thro' my normal Win Update, not how to force d/load an update or what might come next.

Of course it has, I never said it hadn't! I'm simply querying why it hasn't auto updated to 1809 yet like the rest of you.
Sheesh, who'd have thought such a simple query would be so convoluted to answer?

Sheesh, who'd have thought such a simple query would be so convoluted to answer?
There are a number of reasons why you might not have updated to 1809 when it was released last autumn. The upgrade is blocked for some hardware configurations due to compatibility issues. Details are somewhere on the Microsoft site and have also been reported in The Register and a number of other places. Problems, possibly now resolved, included system where objects such as Desktop, Documents and the like have been relocated to drives other than C: and there were reports of folders being deleted.
BTW the first two digits, 18 in this case, are the year of release, and the last pair, the month although I think 1809 might have slipped to October and 1903 is running two months late due to various problems.

I see it. You won't be able to see the "Check for updates" button until that Windows Update error is resolved. That might also be the reason you are not getting Win10 1809.
Oliver.

That Windows Update error has never & will never be resolved but has never prevented Win 10 updating to its major versions in the past.
No, my money's on the non-updating of Intel PCs theory.

@RobertoS:- Do you have a manual Check for updates on the Settings / Windows Update page?
- Are you on Win 10 Home or Pro?
Sorry to have taken so long to respond to this. A combination of being quite busy and forgetting when not busy.
Both machines are on 1803 but they are different.
The "spare" is on (winver) Build 17134.706 and does not have that link. This machine is on Build 17134.766 and does have it, via Windows >> Settings >> Update & Security.
Both claimed to be up to date, "Checked yesterday", but have just received what looks like a minor update to 1803, nothing major. Both machines waiting to be restarted, having downloaded it.
I shall restart both now and break for a cuppa + .

Well that is weird.
Both minor updates went OK, but this machine has updated from build .766 to .799 and the spare has updated from .706 to .766.
The spare still doesn't show the "Update & Security" link and the Check for updates within that, but because of that oddity I typed in Update in the Search for Settings box at the top of the Settings page and that immediately gave a drop-down list (probably) identical to the contents of the "Update & Security" list on this machine.

I'm still on 1803 version.
Unless you're not able to do something because your not on the latest version then I wouldn't worry about it.
In my experience a windows update can be held up for a number of reasons (that windows doesnt tell us).
On a previous update it held it up because a game launcher needed updating. I suspect that it might not have updated this time because I haven't updated my graphics driver in a while, I found a version that worked.

My Lenovo laptop is still on 1803. It has tried three times (once last year and twice this year) updating to 1809 but it fails so backs out and keeps 1803.
I have a feeling mine is not working due to Veracrpyt drive encryption.
I have two other machines (Lenovo Think Server & Acer RL85) and these have both updated, however the updates on the 24th May killed Wi-Fi for both and required drivers re-installing. Microsoft's testing is very poor.

|

TBH, with all the problems coming to light with this May update, better off to leave be for a while until Ms pulls their finger out and get things sorted, that is if they do.
