Win 10 and Office 2003

[link to this post]

My wife's Win10 pc has MS Office 2003 installed.

When she receives email with Office Outlook, if she expands an email shown in the Inbox so as to read it, when afterwards she collapses the email, Outlook closes and has to be reopened in order to go to the next email she wants to read, new or old.

Before I make things worse, any ideas please?

Cheers!

"If she expands" Makes larger? I'm confused. Can we used maximises or opens (double clicks as separate window?) please?

I can read every e-mail in OL2003 from a central pane within a main window. I have a pane on the left of this with a menu of e-mails. If I double click on any e-mail in the left pane, it opens in its own window, which I close with the red 'x' in the corner. If I single click any e-mail in the left pane, said e-mail appears in the central pane of the main OL2003 window. Red 'x' click from this perspective is closing the main OL2003 program.

Can we start talking panes and windows to avoid doubt?

"Collapses" - Minimises or closes?

Outlook is definitely closing (process killed, see resmon or task manager), as opposed to minimising to tray? Do all other MS 2003 applications behave normally if similar actions are tried?

There is a notification area in Windows 10 that includes a 'hide when minimised' option for any/all programs.

Solved!
What wasn't helping me was that I too use MS Office Outlook 2003 with no problems and yet I was getting the same when I tried using Outlook on my wife's Win10. I have the advantage of a wide screen, whereas Cheryl's is a 4:3 screen.
What was happening was that double clicking on an e-mail in the left pane was opening in its own window, but this window was full screen size. So when I clicked the top right 'close' button, it closed not only the email in its full sized window, but Outlook as well!

Thanks for your input, I would not have got there without it.

I'm now sitting in the naughty stupid corner...

Cheers!

If it's not broke, why fix it?

Cheers!
