Windows 11 Pro and Share with App

[link to this post]

Hello,

I am still trying to get to grips with Windows 10 and 11 after many years knowing Windows 7 inside out.

I am trying to help a friend using Windows 11 Pro who wants to email documents directly from File Explorer. When I click on the Share icon (Share with App I think it is called) the only options I get are Microsoft options, and hence for email the MS Mail app. If I click on get another app (can't remember exactly what it is called), I am taken to Microsoft Store.

My friend uses Thunderbird. Does anyone know how I can add Thunderbird as an option when I click of Share in File Explorer?

In the Microsoft Store there is an application called "Desktop Mail" by Lars Wuckel. If you install this then the share menu gives you the option "Desktop Mail", which will take you to your default mail application (in this case Thunderbird).

In File Explorer, type shell:sendto in the address bar

Copy the Thunderbird shortcut into the folder which has opened up

After that, you can right-click files in File Explorer and select Send to > Mozilla Thunderbird, the file will be attached to a new email.

Oliver.

This seems to be a great idea. I will try and report back.

However, just for my info, is there any way to change what appears when I click the Share icon in File Explorer?

Apparently yes, if you install a third-party app as TinyMongomery suggests. My own preference would be to keep everything first-party though.

In the Context Menu of a file (R. click) there is already a Send to > Mail Recipient which opens a composed email in your default email app with the file attached.
