NEW COMPUTER. WIN 11

Running a new Win 11 machine. Nothing fancy, a plain AMD Ryzen 5, 16GB RAM, 2047MB NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 (MSI) VIDEO.

Google Chrome Browser installed, all bookmarks moved over, all fully functional, except Facebook.

I can log in, but it runs very slow, or not at all. runs perfect on old machine.

I cannot understand how this can happen. All ideas will be very welcome.

You installed Google Chrome, it does do a lot in the background and even uninstalling Chrome leaves behind stuff. I’d leave Chrome to the Android devices.

Does the Task Manager show anything? Is CPU spiking or running flat downloading or installing updates?

Nothing showing on Task Manager, no peaks.

I have turned off Adblock Plus and other extensions, it is slightly better today.

So can you describe what “slow” actually feels like?

From clicking on the F.B. tab, >60 secs. before page loads fully.

What antivirus/malware solutions are running? Sounds similar to issues years ago where a bad or multiple AVs were taking ages to scan. A lot of new devices come with a "free" AV and it is usually horrible - prefer just to have Windows Defender these days.

Check to see if Gemini nano is installed.

Win 11 came with Norton 360... "FOR GAMERS"

This is now disabled, no difference.

Now finding, FaceBook will not load

I have turned various items OFF in Norton, still shows everything still running in Task Manager, cannot disable via Task Manager.

You need to remove it properly using the Norton tool, any other method will leave bits lying around.

Whats the commit memory usage ?

That is why I detest Norton - they have been like this for years where it is very difficult to remove it.

I searched online, and found the Norton deletion "tool".

Norton now removed... for ever.

Problem appears to be solved.

That's good news - most virus scanners are worse than the viruses these days.

Norton was good and no1 at one time - around 25 years ago. Ever since its been very naff.

Untill the Russian-Ukraine, war Kaspersky was one of the best if not the best AV, it defeated alot of the state sponsored attacks. Whilst not to sit on sides on a very potical hot potatoe, Eungine Kasperksy decided that closeness to the Kremline regreme was important to his buinsess ..

That has left a wide gap in the market, for av and being filled by usa backed software

Peter Norton was a very very good programmer in the DOS and Windows 1 and 2 days. He retired about Windows 3, sold his name/brand to some big corporations that attached it to some very poor software. I used the original “Norton Utilities”.

Windows 11 includes Defender which is actually quite well regarded, the problem is the manufacturers (and shops like PCWorld/Currys) that preinstall third party security tool.
