Hi guys,
Am getting wireless Internet installed tomorrow, I think it may be mesh based but don't really know for certain, reading a little bit on this has suggested that mesh may not be great or it may just not be the best way, can anyone point me or even better tell me the pros and cons of mesh as an end user
I currently have a very poor 512k connection as am end of line using talktalk (unbundled exchange) a mast has been sited outside of our village and I have been told they have tested and can get 20mb download so if there are any issues with mesh will the potential increase in speed make up for this?
Sorry, probably daft newby questions but I will have a two week cancellation period from time of install so would be great if I knew what to look for, pros and cons from end user perspective, to help make informed decision, after the 2 week period will be. 12month contract and landline based phone and broadband will be getting cancelled
Cheers
Jim

It won't be mesh. Although how it's done doesn't matter as long as it works.
Perhaps you could tell us what antenna they use once it's been installed. Most likely one of these:- ubiquiti nanostation

Will let you know when it's up, I agree to some extent that it doesn't matter how it's done as long as it works but one of their faqs say it's mesh although admittedly this coul be about different products as they install in marinas, hotels, businesses as well as communities.
Looking forward to seeing how it's done and how well it performs

Mesh is the wifi mess that looked good on paper but was rubbish in reality, see the early part of this century for many examples.
I hope it isn't mesh as that does not bode well for consistent speed or latency, If it isn't then they would be good to remove the word mesh from their blurb.
Send us some links to pics of what they install and the mast if you can , then we will use our combined nerd skills to identify the topology.
cheers

hi,
this > http://www.kijoma.net/images/loco.png looks like the more regularly spotted Loco M5 or M2 . these migrated to these shores from america via china and are often seen in rural areas . I believe the first sightings were in West Sussex in 2009 when some pre-release units were released into the wild and settled themselves on roof tops.
The speed, assuming it isn't shaped looks very much like it is fed from an ADSL2+ line , from Eclipse internet .
Welcome to fast wireless internet
cheers

Thanks, was told that was wireless to fibre, does that not seem the case?
Have to say fast broadband is great, am first person in the village to have installed so will see if things change as more users come on line

pingtest results above, how does this look?

Looks like fibre upload wise. Unless annex A
Download probably not reaching full fibre speeds due to the wireless aspect
Still I'm pretty impressed by the technology! I was expecting it to be a flop with poor performance / signal
Out of interest - who is the provider
