Setting up 3 static IPs using Belkin 7633 router

Hi

I'm connected to Zen with the 8000pro package. I have the 8 static IPs which I got when I signed up. I managed to setup one machine as a FTP server using the port forward tool in the router menu to forward all ftp queries to port 21 on the local address of that machine 192.168.2.4. However I had no idea which static IP had been assigned to that machine so I tried all of the static IPs I was given until one worked.

Is there any way to manually assign a static IP address to a machine?

Any help would be appreciated

Probably not what you wanted to hear, but this is a quote from another forum

Well after a good bit of reading on the forums it looks like I may possibly be buying the Cisco 837. I am experimenting with video streaming so need all the flexibility I can get.

Man this Belkin router sucks.

The 837 will shortly be discontinued - better to get an 857 or 877.

Thanks for the advice but aside from the added wireless functionality will the 857 or 877 be much better than the 837. The reason I ask is the 857 and 877 are very expensive whereas the 837 can be bought on fleebay for around

A router that can do routed IP (external IP's to clients) and also NAT (private IPs for some clients) on the same network would be useful.

The Draytek range of routers does this so 'logically thinking the Cisco range should be able to do both at once.

One option is if the Belkin supports it is "Full featured nat" or basically one-to-one NAT where you map an external public IP to a LAN IP so the result is port forwarding all -> 192.168.x.x my 4yr old

The 857 and 877 don't have wireless (the 857W and 877W do).

They both support ADSL2 / 2+ and the 877 has hardware VPN acceleration.

If you don't need either of these features then the 837 will do the job but once the hardware is withdrawn from sale the software support will end...although not for a number of years.

I guess it depends on how long you want your investment to last.

You do know that if you buy an 837 off eBay you are not licenced to run IOS on it unless you buy a licence....?

Thanks for the info Nathan. Unfortunately The Belkin does not support any advanced features such as one to one NAT or assigning IPs to LAN ports. Its a great router if you want to perform the SNR tweak but aside from that its pretty basic.

I've set up a DMZ zone with all the port forwarding that I require but still no joy.

I think its time to buy the Cisco as I've pretty much spent the entire weekend on this, and it was hot outside If you guys have any other ideas, keep 'em coming.

Surly you can disable NAT and set the routers external IP as the LAN IP then asign an extrernal IP to your client with the correct subnet mask and it'll work?

This will of course mean you need the same amount of IP's as clients
