The proxy settings are stored in the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet .

I have to switch when taking my laptop on to a client's site. An easy way is to just save the registry key to a .reg file for home settings, then do the same for school settings. Dump them on the desktop and just double click the settings you want to use.

If IE is the only problem, then you could install Firefox for use at home, and let her use IE at school.

Thanks for the two suggestions above. I would have thought lots of people would have had similar probs when moving betweeen home/work/school sites and that there shold be a simple system built into the OS to allow you to log on to different networks with different settings.

Cheers

There are things you can do with netsh, but it gets rather complicated

I have seen software which will allow you to easily switch networks...but can't for the life of me remember the name

I don't do complicated ;-) Life is tooooooooo short!

Switching to a different lan on a PC should be as easy as switching to a different network when you roam with your mobi. ;-)

I suspect one of the reasons that school/work etc make it complicated is that they don't want you connecting the computer to other networks for security reasons.

Try MultiNetwork Manager:

Best $10 I ever spent (apart from that time in a lapdance bar in Florida, but that's another story).

There's a free trial download.

well it is like mobile roaming if they use DHCP rather than fixed IP addresses. If a proxy is important to them they should make it transparent. None of this stuff need ever be visible to the user.

I agree, but in this day and age people move about a lot and there has to be a way of allowing that movement to flow and still keep things secure.

Cheers

Finn ;-)
