File Transfer To Wireless Laptop

[link to this post]

Hi there. I'll get to the point, I have me, the ST585 v6 connected via CAT6 then my sister connecting via her laptop wirelessley.

What I wanted to ask was how do I setup sending a small file from my PC to hers and vice versa.
Is there also a way for me to do network trafficing so I can choose how the speed is split between the two or see what she is doing?

Thanks in advance.

You can setup home networking quite easily (just use the XP wizard) and share some folders between you. Personally if its just one file I just tend to send is using MSN Messenger, it will route it locally instead of online then back again so it's fairly fast and saves having to share stuff.

If you want to track what she's downloading in terms of content you need some specific software to do that.

I use a program called Netlimiter on my brothers PC (co-incidentially on a wireless connection to my router). It's not free after the trial period but it lets me cap the max speed he can upload/download at on individual programs or just cap connection as a whole. He leeches my net for free so he isn't getting A1 service http://www.netlimiter.com

And as for sharing files I use WinXP's file sharing on certain folders. Right + click on a folder and click it's sharing permissions tab (after switching the function on in the first place). If you are using something like Norton firewall you mite have to allow connections from the other PC for him to be able to access it.

Or you could buy a decent router like a Draytek, they have it so you can cap clients.
