the joys of a contended product im afraid. need to look into 1:1 DSL or alternitively wait till someone kicks BT up the backside.

anyone else noticed the sheer amount of exchanges that are on red recently?

Several that I'm on have been red for months, my connections are all still working absolutely fine.

Shows just how much impact those nasty folks who remained on 2mb downloading 24/7 are impacting everyone else connection that does.

Thanks for highlighting that point so well.

Which is why I don't think red means an awful lot in the great scheme of things.

Tried 3 speed tests now. Best being 1.5mbps.
Not tried the MTU stuff
Not tested at less busy time either.

Sort of - insomuch as there does seem to be a lot of red exchanges at the moment, only I'm not sure if this is a recent thing or something that has been there for some time but people have only now begun to realise it.

It did occur to me that with BT committing resources to their 21CN rollout, they may either be too busy to do much about the red exchanges or they're planning to sort them out as they rollout 21CN, or perhaps do as little as possible (and only where necessary) until then.

Exchange status? BT Speedtest result (if you can get it to work of course)?

I don't need to tell you that if it is exchange contention or your line that your planned move to anohter ISP will be just as bad, if it's your line then best to get it sorted before you move.
