likely cause of this?

[link to this post]

just migrated in from Eclipse where I was on a 1mb connection which very rarely dropped. Now on Zen and still within the 10 days of joining BUT every time my phone rings or is hung up I get disconnected , nothing has changed except for I`m now connected to Zen @ 5440 kbps, I know to expect disconnects.issues within the 10 days but if this persists after this period what should I suspect/do?, cheers guys

Sounds like low quality / faulty microfilters.

so do you think 'low quality' filters would not be susceptible whilst connected @ 1mb but would be connected at higher speed?

At a higher speed, the tolerances of the line would be lower, so an improperly working microfilter could be enough to cause a disruption, whereas at only 1mb it could cope with it.

cheers mate, sounds like a plausible theory :-), though way back when on initial sign up with Eclipse my line which is pretty far from exchange returned as suitable only for 1mb........so maybe the higher connection speed does indeed make the line more susceptible to disconnects etc..............maybe after the 10 days things will settle......though IMHO the connection speed may well be an issue

BlackAle is right.

When I upgraded from 2M to Max I immediately had disconnect problems. I replaced the filter with an NTE5 face plate type and got a signifcant improvement in signal to noise ratio, no more disconnects and an increase in sync speed.

It is not just plausible. It is correct.

Fixed speed connections are inherently more stable than Max. Your will suffer disconnections and eratic speeds until the training period is over (10 days or so).

The good news is that this is that you would get this with any ISP. The bad news is that there does not seem to be any way to get it over with quicker.

Sounds like a distinct case of poor filtering.

If you leave it - the line will probably settle on a noise margin that avoids the problem but will likely leave you with a slower speed that you could get with good filtering in the first place.

But improve the filtering afterwards and the line will slowly improve.

ok guys thanks for the help, I have sent for a 'quality' filter to ensure that there is no weakness my end
