Changing to DD - Branch address/name?

[link to this post]

I'm wanting to change my payment from card to direct debit. I'm not clear on the bank information it asks for. How is "Bank Name" different to "Branch Name"? And is the address it asks for my banks head office that printed on my cheque book, or the address of my local branch?

Example :

Bank name : HSBC

Branch name : High Street, Leicester

Address : 43 High Street, Leicester LE1 4ED

If your account is held at your local branch, use that address.

Usually the Branch that the account is held at is the branch where the account was first opened (even if you have moved since then)

On my cheque book the Address of this branch is at the top of each cheque. Ask your bank if you are unsure.

That's what I was told, but the address on my cheque book is in Meyseyside. My branch is (and always has been) in a small rural town in the East Midlands.

Go to http://www.postcodeanywhere.co.uk/products/bank.aspx click on 'see demo' and put your sort code in. This will tell you the branch name that your account is actually registered to.
In this context, your branch is not the one that you normally use but the one that your account is registered to.

Does it really matter though?

I'm with Barclays and when I fill out DD forms I just put down the general address the bank prints on my statements for correspondence (a Leicester address, many miles away from where I live). I've never had a DD fail to be created (yet :-) )

I don't think it really does matter. It is based on the sort code anyway.
