Force the CURRENT RATE ?

As you can see my noise margin of 6 up and 23 down isn't very good. Sometimes in the evening the line drops and has to re-sync. I believe my line could hold the line indefinitely if the CURRENT RATE wasn't so high. i.e when it drops to about 5500 it stays on fine.

I was under the impression that there was equipment in the exchanges that would set your line at the maximum possible stable rate. However, when I log on in the evening after work, I see that my line has jumped from the 5500 from the night before back up to 6000+

Is the any way I can lock it down (or get Zen to do it) to a nice stable 5000 ? I don't require a fast download, just a stable line.

Cheers for reading.

With some makes of router you can use a tool called DMT which allows you to alter the noise margin. If you raise the noise margin (say from 6 to 9 dB) this may well make your line more stable, albeit at a slower sync speed.

Cheers, but I don't think my Linksys can do that. Can it be done at the exchange end of things ?

Yes... well BT can increase the target SNR margin anyway.
You'd need to contact support and raise an intermittent connection fault, and specify that you would like the target SNR margin increased.
