Confused by portal data

[link to this post]

I replaced my office router about a month ago. I thought I would check my BRAS profile on the portal.

The latest line rate data, ignoring that for 2008 and 2009 is: Upstream 0, downstream 6500, sync blank, BRAS blank, Interleave auto, sync date blank and date 30-May-2007.

Router stats are up 832k, down 7616k, SNR 9dB and attenuation 33.5dB

So where do I find my BRAS profile?

If you run a BT speedtest it will tell you what your current profile is.

Thanks, would never have thought to do a speed test to find the info.

I haven't used the speed tester for ages as it never seemed to work. Followed the instructions on http://www.zensupport.co.uk/knowledgebase/article.aspx?id=10383.

Got a series of different errors. IP doesn't match phone number, busy, unexpected result and finally don't log in as speedtest@speedtest_domain use your normal login. That wasted 20 minutes. Zen update your support page please.

IP profile (which I assume is the BRAS) 6500k.

OK.

I only need to increase my down stream from 7616 to 7968 to raise my BRAS to 7000k. With a SNR of 9dB this should be possible. If I understand it the SNR limit of 9dB rather than the usual 6dB is set at the BT end. How do I get this changed?

The 9dB probably came about to steady the connection when I first went to max. Since then filter has been changed to a faceplate type which improved things a lot. And my new Vigor 2800 router seems to keep things rock solid. So I reckon I can loose a dB or 2 of noise margin.

Zen have no interest in the BT Speedtest problems. I have been trying to get the tester to work for months - have raised problems with TS and have been told that they have nothing to do with the Speedtester, and are not prepared to forward the fault on to BT.

Moved from BTopenworld to ZeN - several years ago. Delighted (most of the time)
Zen 8000 Active - speed capped by BT, usage capped by Zen

This is incorrect, we have put a lot of time into testing the BT Speed tester, but have hit a brick wall at BT with regards to getting the current version working.

We won't raise an individual fault for a customer with regard to the BT Speed Tester, but have been pursuing the issue with BT as a general problem, related to the last stage of the test.

regards,
Phil.

Even if the speed tester is nothing to do with them, their support pages are and should give the right info. Worked OK once I was correctly logged in to my Zen account rather than the speedtest_domain. All the time waste was while I follwed the wrong instructions from the support page.

A replacement article had been written and for some reason was not published (I'll look into that).

An updated article has now replaced the one you originally linked to.

Phil.
