I have just escaped from PIPEX where I had a 1Mb connection for a few years and signed up for upto 8Mb Active8000.
Migration was trouble free and connection no problem. However when I check my speed I find it is only marginally better than with Pipex. This is not what I thought I was buying.
Router stats
Upstream 448 Kbps Noise margin 26 dB Power 11.5 dBm Att 10 dB
Downstream 7424 Kbps Noise margin 7 dBm Power 20 dBm Att 23 dB
BT speedtester comes up with similar speeds
Should I leave the router on or switch it on and off each session?
I have seen various accounts of the BT procedure for setting speeds but they all seem shrouded in arcane mystery, maybe they like it that way.
The thinkbroadband speed test comes up with about 1Mb download 0.5 Upload which looks to me the same as my router says and the BT speed test says. Will I ever climb above 1Mb???
Thanks for any help in advance.
