Bit confused with current speed

[link to this post]

I have an activation date of the 24th March, but my connection appears to be live already - although Zen have not confirmed this via email or the cust portal. Previous ADSL availability checks suggested that my phone line should be able to support a 6.5Mbps (I'm in the Epping, Essex area).

Speed test results:

Speed Down: 1872.63 Kbps ( 1.8 Mbps )
Speed Up: 378.19 Kbps ( 0.4 Mbps )

Exchange is 535 metres (straight line) from me.

Should I start to cry?

In addition:

Not sure how relevant this is, but the Netgear router page is stating the following in router status:

DownStream Connection Speed 8128 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 448 kbps

Anyone care to shed some light?

Also, the Zen usage checker is not displaying anything after I installed it (I got one error that told me there is no broadband connection associated to my profile). Is this because Zen have to update their systems in some way? I've received no confirmation emails yet that my service has gone live, even though it has.

Stuck BRAS profile, it may unstick itself in the next few days or not needing intervention from tech support. Have a read here http://kitz.co.uk/adsl/IPprofile.htm

Don't cry yet

Your lack of a confirmation email probably means that BT have connected you early and haven't told Zen yet.

All new ADSL Max activations start out at 2Mb and fluctuate over the next few days while BT establish a BRAS profile for your connection. With an 8128 sync speed, you should end up with quite a nice connection.

The reason the usage checker isn't displaying anything is because it links in with the portal, and this won't have the new line in it yet until (the day after - I think!) the BT activation date.

Good news it came on early though, and yes, it's probably that the BRAS is set at the default of 2000. If it's not changed by the day after the activation date give support a call and we'll see what we can do.

Have emailed the 'issue' to cust serv, who in-turn have fired it across to tech support (as I recieved a 'auto-reply' email from them earlier this morning).

My customer portal info hasn't been updated yet with the fact I've gone active, etc.

Hoping this is sorted today. As for the stuck BRAS, also hoping this is sorted over the next day or so.

Is the process for sorting out this type of issue a quick and swift one?

Indeed, whilst the email system to contact support works it is a rather slow process. I had a small problem and used email support, in total it took a little bit over 3 days for it to be completed, whereas the previous 2 'problems' were sorted that day via telephone.

Email whilst very handy, can't beat good old voice transmissions

Live Chat support worked a treat. Even got to 'speak' to John.
