Moving domain to Zen

[link to this post]

I have set up a cpanel account and uploaded my website to xxx.myzen.co.uk. That's the easy bit, now I need to transfer my domain so that web and email go to zen using xxx.co.uk. In particular I don't want to loose email in changing hosting to Zen.

If I set up email boxes on Zen they are of the form [email protected]. If I get the IPSTAG set to Zen will [email protected] and [email protected] be the same? In other words as DNS propagates around the net will the email automatically start arriving in my new Zen mailboxes?

No. - Not just with the actions you have mentioned in your post.

Have you arranged with Zen to have the domain hosted by them?

Line One:- Zen - DrayTek Vigor 2600VG
Line Two:- EntaNet - DrayTek Vigor 2600

First step:
Make sure you Park your domain name on your cPanel account, so that when DNS is pointed to your server the server knows to associate that with your hosting account.
See http://www.zensupport.co.uk/knowledgebase/article.aspx?id=10833 to do this.

2nd step (if you have not already done so)
Order a Domain Transfer with Zen ( http://www.zen.co.uk/Hosting/Domains.aspx )
on the online order form specify that the web & email will be pointing to a linux hosting account, & fill in the username of that hosting account when asked for this (this will mean we set up the correct DNS entries for you)

3rd step (after domain transfer order has been completed)
update the IPSTAG to ZENSYS - which will complete the domain transfer. By following the above two steps the cpanel server & zen DNS servers will both be ready for the transfer, so you should see no downtime

OK

So park the domain on Zen then transfer IPSTAG.

The knowledgebase article has that in the other order. Create/move domain to Zen then park domain.

Thanks.

I've arranged the domain but don't want to transfer it till I'm sure I won't loose email. Gorskar has clarified that.

OK so nominet show Zen as the registrar but DNS still with old hosting company. So how long does it take for Zen to update DNS? I know once DNS is updated it will take time to propagate.

To answer my own question Zen updated DNS according to tech support at 12:32 after it failed on the first attempt.
