Hi, I've been with Zen about 2 years now, and never had any problems. In January I moved house, I knew the new house was a little bit from the exchange, and when I moved in and got connect I got a sync speed of between about 1750 and 2000.
About a week ago I noticed that using the internet was slow, I looked at my sync speed and was about 1000, but a speed test was giving me just under 500. I rebooted the router and got the same. The router is plugged into a ADSL splitter plate at the master socket. I did the usual stuff such as using the master test socket, and using a different micro filer, but still got the same sync speeds. I also tried an old Netgear DG384 router and still got the same sync speeds.
I logged a call with Zen, and they said that "the line has degraded recently i am thinking that it is due to the intermittency that has inturn pushed the margin higher and therefore the speed lower".
I did a bit more testing with a fixed line phone and found that there was a bit of buzzing on the line when plugged into the master socket. I traced this down to the power supply for the cordless telephone. This has been unplugged since Sunday, and initially the line was stable, and my profile increased to 750. However yesterday night my line reset, and I am now synching at 704, and am back on the 500 profile.
Zen say that there is nothing they can do as "The problem is the line is stable and above Fault Threshold Rate (FTR) - 691, therefore BT do not consider this a fault condition".
Is there anything I can do as I'm not happy at the moment, I have really noticed a drop in by browsing speed, I need to work from home sometimes, and at the moment it's a bit painful as it's so slow.
Here's my line data from the last month:
