This is what I now have after the up to 20mbps upgrade

This is what I had before

Does everything look OK, or should I have had a higher sync post 20mbps etc ?

Hi,
The downstream snr margin (the 'bit left over' to maintain stability once sync is established) is running at around 6db - so fairly minimal, which is good and means the line is running about as fast as it will go. Sync is around 14Mbps on what looks to be a medium-length line with 28db downstream attenuation - looks pretty good to me
You could try connecting your router to the master test socket if you want to see if you can 'squeeze' a bit more sync speed out of your line - see

Thanks. It's good to know

Spoke too soon.
previously
Weird thing is thoght the download speed has dropped from 10mbps to 2mbps, the upload speed has increased from 0.7 to 1005Kbps
I'm into day four of my ten day test, or at least I hope this is what's happening

How is this all setup, has any of it changed at all?
|
|
|
|
No changes apart from the router (replaced a Draytek 2600G) away back in March which has been rock solid since, even constantly syncing at 8128 (which I never had with the Draytek).
Everything that should be is filtered.
It's very weird that my upstream has gone up, while my downstream has plummeted

....and back up again with a faster upload, and the best ping I'ver had
This will do me just fine
I just wonder if it's the ten day testing thing ?

Hi,
That's unlikely - unless your BRAS/IP profile is changing - and that would only occur if your sync speed is dropping too.
More-likely it's local contention; which may be expected to be a bit higher than usual for the next couple of weeks, given Wimbledon coverage, as people at work do tend to make use of streaming servers to watch the matches.
Leo will no doubt look in more detail at your particular circumstances to see if there's anything else at play here.
ta,
Phil.

Oh well, that was that theory then
Thanks for taking the time to answer
Not that I'm ungrateful for it, but how come my upload speed started at about 720, then went up to 1mbps ?

G'day 2pods,
can you run this one please:
http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html
Your sync speed and profile dont match what you're seeing.
|
|
|
It went back up again last night
Here's today's test as requested.
Great now isn't it
|
|
|
|
you're using speedtest.net which is flash based and can only run as fast as your pc will carry it?? I don't like it at all, but people use it and say it works well.

I used Speedtest.net, speedtest.bbmax.co.uk, but I usually use the one here at thinkbroadband.
They all gave me roughly the same stats, both yesterday and today.
Looking at my logs, there was a disconnection yesterday at 12.35, just before the speed dropped.
However, all now seems well, so it will remain a mystery

Spoke too soon again !
Came in to find a disconnection which had taken place today at the same time as the last one (12.35).
Rebooted the router, and now have a lower sync of 12480, as opposed to yesterday's 13632. Obviously this is now showing a lower profile on my Zen specs.
The other thing I find weird, is the router shows the upstream sync (1260), but my Zen profile shows 0. Hmm.....
I wish I understood this a bit more.
