I'm on ADSL max at the moment and my exchange/line is 21cn enabled. What speed/sync can i expect with my line stats if I decide to regrade to ADSL2+?

ADSL Link...................Downstream........Upstream
Connection Speed.......6358 kbps..........445 kbps
Line Attenuation.........40.0 db...............20.7 db
Noise Margin................8.6 db................18.9 db

You should be getting about 7 Meg now on ADSL Max on a 6 dB NM.

You should get about 8 Meg on ADSL2+, bearing in mind that your attenuation will increase by 3dB.

1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up => 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB => 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB => 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU => 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU => 2011: Orange 17 Meg Untweaked 19 Meg Tweaked WBC

Would expect a bit more currently, so might suggest a ring wire that needs attending too

It turned out to be the ring wire which was causing a low sync.

I checked the front plate in front of the master socket and there were no extensions wired directly into that. But I did have a double socket extension plugged in and it did have the bell/ring wire attached to pin 3, I disconnected that and my sync rate went up straight away.

new stats:

ADSL Link...................Downstream.......Upstream
Connection Speed.......7088 kbps..........445 kbps
Line Attenuation...........40.0 db...............20.7 db
Noise Margin................9.2 db................18.6 db

Much better, and with ADSL2+ you will get more now.

My sync has been 7023kbps for few days (over 93hrs) now and I've done speedtests with various sites and downloading Zen test files, the download speeds are as expected ( =>700Kbps)and match the sync rate.
But according to my line data available in the Zen customer portal, the bras profile is still set as adsl5000.
Shouldn't it be set to adsl6000.

That may simply be Zen is not seeing an updated figure, which is of no consequence

what www.speedtester.bt.com says for the IP Profile is what matters on zen

BT recently made a change on 21CN ADSL and ADSL2+ services where the BRAS tracks the sync rate more-or-less "live", so it's about 88% of your sync speed (FTTC already worked in this way). With this change we no-longer get data on the currently configured BRAS profile.

Unfortunately the Portal hasn't yet been changed to reflect this, though our guides on using line data and diagnosing issues do reflect this change.

The BT speed tester should provide the currently configured BRAS profile.

Phil.

I requested a regrade to adsl2+ yesterday and it looks like the regrade happened overnight.
Before the regrade (on Zen 8000 active) my sync was 7808kbps @ line att: 37.0, noise margin: 6.2, and In the customer portal it states "Your current maximum download speed is 6888Kbps.
Your current line technology is WBMC."

Now the sync is
ADSL Link............................Downstream......Upstream
Connection Speed...............8807 kbps..........780 kbps
Line Attenuation...................40.0 db...............20.7 db
Noise Margin........................6.2 db.................5.7 db

I know its still early, but I was expecting my sync to be higher. How long does it take for the BT profile to be changed? The router I'm using is Netgear DGND3300v2 and is ADSL2+ capable.

That speed is consistent with being on ADSL2+ already (i.e. it's above the maximum sync possible on ADSLMax).

It's not far below what the attenuation and noise margin would suggest your line is capable of (9031Kbps at 6db according to the checker here: http://www.coolwebhome.co.uk/calc/calculator.php).

I would say your line is running normally.

Phil.

Thanks. Still an improvement.

In the order tracker why does it say: Wait for regrade date to be 1 day in past - IN PROGRESS FOR 10 HOURS".

I'll PM my username and order#.

It's just part of tidying up an order after completion - the order will be marked as 'fulfilled' once the systems have done there bit; it's not something you need to worry about. smile

Phil.
