...including emails from Microsoft, Classicsonline, dabs, and Zen (all quite respectable companies). I don't think it's anything I've done - has something changed at the Zen end?

No, just Thunderbird, but I'm using Mailwasher to look at the Zen POP server, and it's possible that it's Mailwasher doing it.
